Department of Physical Culture and Sports
Department of Physical Education was established in 1947 under direction of Serebrianik Yakov Petrovich. Infrastructure of the sports center of the Institute included a gym in dormtory №1, shooting range and summer sports ground. In 1952, at the initiative of Serebrianik Y.P. on the beach in Chernomorka a tent sports camp «Friendship» was laid.

In 1971, a modern sports complex for physical education and sport was built with direct participation of students, personnel and department staff at the place of summer sports grounds. It includes a swimming pool, games room, specialized halls for gymnastics, boxing and fencing. Sports and recreation camp «Friendship» becoms a favorite place for rest. The Department of Physical Education became one of the best in Odessa. The team of Odessa Technological Institute of Food Industry named after Lomonosov headed the list three times (in 1966, 1970 and 1972) in general team rating between universities of Ukraine.
The Academy takes pride in Tukmakov Vladimir Borisovich, the graduate of Faculty of Economics of OTIFI named after Lomonosov, who became Grand Master of USSR, International Grand Master since 1972, honored coach of Ukraine.
From 1987 to 1991 professors of the Department had trained 5 Masters of Sport, 104 Candidate Masters of Sports, 363 athletes of 1st grade, 10193 athletes of mass grades, 5903 holders of badge «Ready to Work and Defense the USSR», 3346 instructors and judges in various sports.
Participation in marathons dedicated to Day of liberation of Odessa from fascist invaders - 100 km on the Belt of Glory, marathon swims Odessa-Ilichevsk. Picked team of the Institute in the complex rating wins prizes in the championship between eighteen universities of the area in 1999, 2000, 2002.
Names of our student-athletes Sergey Tregub, the bronze medallist of the European championship 1999 in shooting; Ruslana Glivinskyy, the winner of the 4th Summer Universiade of Ukraine in high jumping; Alexei Makhlai, the bronze medallist of the 4th Summer Universiade of Ukraine in fencing; Andrey Sumets, the bronze medallist of student sports contest of Ukraine in 1999 in chess; Kishenko Artur the double world champion in Thai boxing; Gromchak Dmitriy and Prut Dmitry, the winnters of Ukrainian Cup in Thai boxing; Kostenko Diana, the prize-winner of the Championship of Ukraine on Thai boxing, silver and bronze medalist of the summer Universiade Ukraine in the classic boxing (2009) and the regional sports contest of students in karate (2009) have sounded repeatedly throughout Ukraine.
Since 2010, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports is headed by Tatiana Sergeeva, the Candidate Master of Sports in handball, the Ukrainian Championship winner (1986), the winner of the regional competition «Teacher of the Year» (2001). Priority direction of the Department's work is mass sports and health-improving work with students.
Today, sports center of the Academy includes: educational and sports complex (ESP); gym and boxing hall. The structure of ESP consists of a sports camp, sports camp «Friendship» and the sports camp «Southern Bug».
Sports clubs in volleyball, basketball, football, shaping, table tennis, athletic gymnastics, boxing, swimming and others work in sports center of our Academy.
For last 5 years teams of OTIFI became winners of regional student championships among universities of Odessa: mini-soccer and football between men's national teams (coached by Maksymchuk B.V.), mini-soccer and football between women's national teams (coached by Boltomatis D.V.), volleyball and beach volleyball (coached by Volkova T.V., Goncharuk V.V.), rugby (coached by Boltomatis D.V.), handball women's national teams (coached by Pavlyuk O. V.), handball among men's national teams (coached by Tsapenko L.N.), water polo (coached by Vasiliev V.P.), shooting (coached by Basko A.A.), chess (coached by Zahlevskaya T.V.).
